Buying In The Auctions/Claimers

When you buy in Auctions and Claimers you need to look into a few things that will help.

1 . Look at the previous races to see what grade they have been running in.Placing in levels and WFA races.

2 . Look at the transfer tab to see who owned the horse.

3 . Look at the jockeys that have been riding the horse.Placing with bad jockeys is a good thing.

4 . Look at the last time the horse won because the horse could be on an allowance weight.

5 . Look at how many wins on the horse to see if the horse can still run in division races.

6 . Watch out for horses that get entered after age change - they could get a bad age change and be worth nothing.

7 . Look at the size of fields - placing in big fields is a lot better than small fields.

8 . Look at the full training history - people make mistakes and you can get a very good bargain.

9 . Look at the adds - retest them because their are randoms in training which will affect adds.

10 . If in doubt always ask for time trials and maybe another person to help you.

Buying In The Auctions

When you have decided to buy in the Auction set a budget.

Decide on what type of horse you require for your stable

Never buy rubbish - there is no point and better to get one good horse that 3 average horses that will suck the money from your stable.

Never place bids early - you will need to keep your options open untill you have looked at all horses avaiable and gathered the information you require.

Always ask for time trials unless you can see these in the auction.

Think of the potential earnings this horse could have in your stable because that help you on the price you want to pay.

Think what types of races you can enter for the horse if you were lucky to buy this horse.

Always look at potential horses that are cheap and could easily win an allowance race.

Once you have made up your mind then place a marker on the horse, not the full bidding reserve unless you have to.Do not show your hand too early to other bidders.Once you show to others what you want then they will start looking closer at this horse.

If you have the time then only bid in the last 2 mins of the auction, make sure your the highest bidder to grab that horse but do not get carried away.

Remember once a bid is placed this is open for another 2 mins and hope for no more bids to get this horse.

Good Luck in the Auction

Saving Horses For Age 4 Plus

Lower class horses can be saved for age 4 year racing, the horses standard normally drops for horses on very low wins.

I have found out that in G2 racing that a horse can easily be doing 1.5 less at age 4 and still win division racing, but the racing in G1 is very stonger because lower challnge horses are kept for age 4 year plus racing.

Lets say you have a horse that won a couple of races at age 2 then struggles, dont put it into claimers because someone could easily claim the horse.Think ahead and put this horse to sleep till age 4 on low wins. You will find that you will still get more wins at this age and have some fun with the horse.

G1 horses on low wins have some very nice pots with added bonus at age 4 plus and could easily win a lot more money.

Sandbagging For Grade Races

Sandbagging G2 horses is very easily and you can win back the sales ring cost very quickly.

Best sand bagging comes from fillies, this is due to the tack being easily removed unlike colts when gelding cannot be removed once placed on the horse.

Always run the horse over the wrong distance at 50% - lets say 3200m because this is a great distance.

Take off all tack that the horse likes,If the horse hate blinkers then re-apply these to get a better affect of sandbagging.

Always place the horse in a full field for sandbagging then hope and pray that you get a poor jockey.

Once the horse has raced check to see what the allowance weight now is - this could easily drop by 15 to 20lbs depending on the losing distance in the race.

Now put on all the adds that show a positive affect and train up to 95/97% fit.Now the horse is ready.

Pick an allowance race that will be a full field on the horses best going and distance.

Quite a lot of allowance races get made into an EB race so that added bonus could easily help the stable.

Good Luck in racing

G2 Horses - Age Change

Personally from my stable achievements I have found the following.

G2 Fillies tts are getting higher and higher each season.

G2 colts are about stable as previous seasons.

Colts and Fillies races - Fillies have a lot better chances of winning these races.

What I class as top top G2's 98% of them get what I class as a bad age change.I have certain targets for them to hit at age 3 to be good earners at age 4 once/if they hit that standard.

Lower class G2's a large % get better age changes and could easily catch up the top top G2 horses that get bad age changes.

Top Top G2s very seldom get very good age changes and will never get what is required at age 4 once a bad age change.

Top Top G2s - a very large % do not perform to tts and might improve with form at age 3 if you are lucky.

Average tt horses are worth sleeping till age 4 because of lower tts needed for horses with a couple of wins.

I have commented to RC before about age changes on G2's and they said they would look at this - but nothing has been done about this.

You will only see me buy a G2 age 2 now if its a clone of what I know.I tend to look at age 3 or age 4 G2s now.

The last one I picked up does huge tts and would of easily paid £100. A big age change and hoping for another because this filly will be near most colts if it all works out.

I believe that the bar from G2 to G1 is very fine.We all try to get near this line and once the age change happens you are not allowed to pass this line hence a bad age change for this horse.Only a couple of freaks escapes the process but in the grand scheme of G2 horses its about 2% pass this point.
